Cheerleaders must try out on an annual basis. The cheerleading season consists of the entire football and basketball seasons, post season tournaments, and public appearances designated by the athletic department. A four-day summer cheerleading workshop may be required.
The cheerleading team will consist of 16-20 members. Practice will be held twice a week primarily for pyramid and partner stunting, and extra practices will occur earlier in the season to learn cheers and dances. Along with practice, additional weight lifting sessions will be required each week. All cheerleaders will be required to cheer at home football games. We will rotate cheering for the women's basketball games.
During tryouts, you must specify if you are trying out as a base or flyer. If you choose to tryout as both a base and flyer, you will need to perform the base and the flyer positions during the stunt portions of tryouts. All material that you will be judged on will be taught at tryouts. You will learn two cheers and one dance. There is no weight limit. Due to the nature of the activity, an individual will be required to perform two jumps and stunt. We do not have a mandatory tumbling requirement, but extra points will be given to those who demonstrate tumbling abilities, either standing or running (5 points per level of difficulty). Those who make the team will be notified by email within 24 hours.
