UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The Richmond field hockey team out-shot William & Mary 10-6, but the Spiders could not put the ball in the back of the cage in a 2-0 loss to the Tribe on Thursday at Crenshaw Field.

William & Mary used two goals in the first 22 minutes to come away with the victory, scoring on their only two shots on goal for the day.

"I am really pleased with our team play today," Richmond head coach Gina Lucido said. "Although we were not able to finish in the attacking end, our ability to connect in passing play was some of our best this season. We had a few opportunities that were near goals and we will build on those moments of success today."

The Spiders were sparked by some solid play from junior Sarah Schrott and sophomore Becky White.

"Sarah and Becky brought a new level to their game and made a huge impact on the field today," Lucido said.

Richmond, which has already clinched its sixth berth in the Atlantic 10 Tournament in as many years in the conference, hosts Saint Louis for Senior Day on Sunday at noon. The five-time defending Atlantic 10 Champion Spiders will play in the Atlantic 10 Tournament on Nov. 2-3 at Saint Joseph's.

"St. Louis will be another test of our continued commitment towards being our best for seventy minutes," Lucido said. "We move forward and we become better from today's loss."

Senior captains Erin Arthur and Tara Kelly will be honored before Sunday's game.
