Sciocchetti Becomes Richmond's All-Time Saves Leader, But Spiders Fall
Nov. 2, 2007
ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - St. Bonaventure scored less than five minutes into Friday's game and added another goal from about 40 yards out in a 2-0 victory over the Richmond men's soccer team.
Richmond goalkeeper Eric Sciocchetti made four saves in goal as he became Richmond's all-time saves leader. Sciocchetti's third save of the night tied him with Roland Bruklis at 382 saves and his fourth put Sciocchetti atop the school's all-time list. Stephen Bortolon put the Bonnies on the scoreboard with a goal just 4:32 into the game on an assist by Nick Lopez. In the 28th minute, St. Bonaventure made it 2-0 when Lopez ripped a shot from 40 yards out and found the back of the net. "We didn't play extremely well," Richmond head coach Jeff Gettler said. "They scored early on a free kick and then the second goal was from about 40 yards out. Then they just shut the game down." The Spiders return to action on Sunday at Fordham at 1 p.m. "We're a little bit dispirited, but hopefully we can do something to turn it around for these last three games," Gettler said.
