Men's Golf In Seventh Place Halfway Through First Market Bank Intercollegiate

March 17, 2008

RESULTS

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The Richmond men's golf team is in seventh place out of 19 teams at the First Market Bank Intercollegiate hosted by William & Mary at Kingsmill Country Club.

The Spiders shot a 13-over-par 297, which has them 11 shots off the lead, but just five strokes out of third place.

"We could have played a lot better today and we're hoping to have a better round tomorrow," Richmond head coach Adam Decker said. "We left some shots out there on the course, but we could definitely move up a few spots with a solid round Tuesday."

The Spiders will be looking for their sixth-straight top-5 tournament finish in the second and final round Tuesday.

Junior Grant Rafield led the Spiders with a 2-over-par 73 on the par-71, 6,809-yard River Course at Kingsmill Country Club. Rafield is tied for 16th, one shot ahead of senior Jordan Utley. A 3-over-par 74 has Utley, the reigning Atlantic 10 Player of the Week, in a tie for 24th.

Senior Billy Hanes and sophomore Robert Lindstrom are tied for 36th at 4-over 75 and junior Tim Courtney is tied for 61st after shooting a 78.
