Jim Tait continued his long association with University of Richmond football program by accepting the position of Administrative Assistant for Football Alumni Relations in 2000.
In 1966, Tait joined Frank Jones' staff as the offensive coordinator and secondary coach, and then handled just the offensive coordinator responsibilities for eight years. In 1974, Tait was promoted to head coach at Richmond. The following season, the Spiders won the Southern Conference championship and Tait was named the league's Coach of the Year as well as Big Five Coach of the Year. Tait returned to the Spiders in 1989 and worked with quarterbacks and receivers for 10 years before retiring in 1998.
Tait has six children: Marie, James, Teresa, Mark, Mike and Aimee. He and his wife, Karen, live in Midlothian, Va.
