Spiders Conclude The First Annual Fred Hardy Invitational

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - A total of 16 Top-10 finishes were recorded by the Spiders in day two of the First Annual Fred Hardy Track and Field Invitational. In those Top-10 finishes were sophomore Nicole Erby and junior Nicole Kurtain. Erby won the women's 800 meter race with a 2:12.95. Kurtain came in first in the women's 1500 meter with a 4:45.93.

A total of four NCAA Regional qualifying marks were turned in during the meet's second day. In the men's javelin, Pittsburgh's Corey Kuehner recorded an NCAA Regional mark. Billie Jo Grant of Virginia (women's discus), Angela Hoover of Pittsburgh (women's javelin) and Justin Clickett (men's shot put) each recorded marks better than the NCAA Regional qualifying marks.
 

 

A multitude of Richmond women's athletes placed among the Top-10 in each of their individual events. Besides Erby, junior Diana Morse (2:14.81) and Kurtain (2:21.28) each turned in Top-10 times in the 800 meters. Freshmen Diane Kenaston and Shelby Faircloth came in eighth and ninth respectively with times of 4:57.35 and 4:57.57 in the 1500 meters.

In the field events senior Ashley Bell went a distance of 37-02.50 in the triple jump to place third overall. Sophomores Leslie Gleue (129-10) came in fourth in the women's discus. Sophomores Beth Crocus and Lindsey Smith each garnered Top-10 finishes in the women's javelin event. Crocus threw 140-00 to place third and Smith came in seventh with a throw of 128-00.

Junior John Ciccarelli and freshman Jonathan Molz garnered Top-10 finishes in the 1500 meters. Ciccarelli went 4:01.17 to finish seventh and Molz ended with a time of 4:01.75 to place eighth.
