BLACKSBURG, Va. - Five Richmond runners competed in the Virginia Tech Last Chance Invitational Saturday, allowing once final chance to qualify for the 2008 Indoor Track & Field Championship next weekend in Fayetteville, Ark. Shelby Faircloth finished first in the 5,000 for the Spiders.

Faircloth's time of 18:16.76 was nearly a minute faster than the second-place runner.

Diana Filtz took eighth in the mile, finishing in a time of 5:29.13.

The Spiders had three men running the 3,000, with Andrew Benford's sixth-place time of 8:28.05 leading the way. Jonathan Molz was ninth in 8:51.03 and Mike Stubbs was 15th in 9:12.03.

No Spiders earned NCAA qualifying marks in the meet.

Richmond's outdoor season begins at Wake Forest Invitational March 21-22.
