Molz Sets Facility Record In 1,000, Spiders Win Eight Events At Liberty
Feb. 9, 2008 LYNCHBURG, Va. - The University of Richmond indoor track & field teams collected eight gold medals Friday evening at a quad meet hosted by Liberty University. Five personal-best times for the Spiders were set in the meet, while Jonathan Molz set a facility record in winning the 1,000-meter. Molz's time of 2:29.58 in the 1,000 was a personal-best and the fastest men's to be recorded at Liberty's Tolsma Indoor Track Center. Jeff Strojny set a personal-best in winning the 800-meter (1:56.15), while Andrew Benford set a personal record with a gold-medal finish in the mile (4:18.92). Calvin Virgilio (4:27.82) and Tim Quinn (4:28.61) also set personal-best times in the mile. On the women's side, Nicol Traynor made it a clean-sweep for the Spider men and women in the mile, leading wire-to-wire in a time of 5:08.41. Jasmine Major and Marissa White each had solid performances in the 60-meter and 60-meter hurdles. Major reached the finals of the 60-meter with a 7.71, then posted a time of 7.81 in the finals to finish second. She finished third in the 60-meter hurdles (9.10). White was fifth in the 60-meter (8.16) and sixth in the hurdles (9.59). Major also had a big day in the field events, winning the long jump (18-1.00) and taking second in the triple jump (36-9.50). Megan Ney won the high jump with a mark of 5-3.00. Freshman Samella Koroma helped the Spiders sweep the throws events by winning both the shot put (38-11.00) and the weight throw (44-2.50). K'Lynn Robinson and Monica Howard were second and third in the shot, while Howard collected a second-place finish in the weight throw.
The meet was the Spiders final tune-up before the 2008 Atlantic 10 Indoor Track & Field Championship, which is set for Saturday, February 16 in Kingston, R.I. |
